ARDTREA REVISITED

The Ardtrean sky at twilight
is uncommonly beholdable,
last night's yellow lunar halo
has since faded,
sundry stars spangle
aloft and Hercules assumes airs
in proximity to the slain Giant Draco.
Near the cove, silver birches
sway and tremble naked
in the frost.

The wind gusts with gusto
on the hummock above this inlet
where a dampened susurrus
softly kisses the pebbled beach.
It sighs in the cabin doors
and whispers in the stovepipes
under the servitude
of our night song.

In the speechless, celestial
testimony, under the thraldom
of these verses,
there is a vehemence
as if a silkened smoothness
could save us from the northern
